The Rongai Route is a less-traveled Kilimanjaro route, particularly popular among experienced climbers.
It begins on the northern slopes of the mountain in a pine forest and passes through a variety of climate zones. Since the descent follows the Marangu Route in the south, this trek allows you to experience both sides of Kilimanjaro.
Much less crowded than the busy southern routes, you will encounter roughly ten times fewer trekkers on Rongai! The route is also incredibly scenic, offering stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo, the surrounding Tanzanian landscapes, and a unique flora including giant groundsels (Dendrosenecio kilimanjari) and tropical forests along the descent.
The Rongai Route provides trekkers seeking a quieter, more intimate Kilimanjaro adventure with a peaceful and immersive experience.
