Tanzania is not only famous for its wildlife safaris but also for its world-class trekking experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or an adventurous traveler looking for a new challenge, Tanzania’s mountains offer unforgettable trekking adventures through stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems.
Embark on the adventure of a lifetime and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters. This iconic mountain is a true bucket-list experience, offering breathtaking landscapes, from lush rainforest and alpine meadows to glaciers and the awe-inspiring summit at Uhuru Peak.
The name comes from “Kilima” (Swahili for “mountain”) and “Njaro” (Chagga for “white/ brightness”). Together, they describe the snow-capped summit – the “White Mountain”, a timeless symbol of majesty and adventure.
With seven distinct routes leading to the top – including Lemosho, Machame, Marangu, Northern Circuit, Rongai, Shira, Umbwe - and Mweka (for descent only) – every trekker can find the perfect path.
Guided by experienced professionals and supported by dedicated teams, your climb is safe, rewarding and unforgettable. Each step brings you closer to the summit – and to the moment you stand on the “Roof of Africa”, gazing at the world below.
The best times to climb Kilimanjaro are late December to early March and mid-June to late October, when the mountain enjoys nearly perfect weather. Even during other months, occasional rain does not mean constant downpours—showers usually arrive in the afternoon, leaving plenty of clear, sunny hours for trekking. Many days remain completely dry, offering excellent opportunities to experience the summit in comfort and style, no matter the season.
Duration: 5–9 days (depending on route)
Highlights: Scenic and diverse landscapes, excellent acclimatization, iconic Barranco Wall, high summit success rates
Kilimanjaro is more than a climb – it’s a life-changing journey that challenges your spirit and rewards you with memories to last a lifetime.
Located in Arusha National Park, Mount Meru rises to 4,566 meters (14,980 feet) and is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania. It’s less crowded than Kilimanjaro but offers breathtaking views, rich wildlife, and a dramatic crater rim. Trekkers often see giraffes, buffaloes, and monkeys along the trail. Mount Meru is also a great warm-up climb before attempting Kilimanjaro.
Oldonyo Lengai, meaning "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language, is an active volcano located near Lake Natron in northern Tanzania. It stands at 2,962 meters (9,718 feet) and is the only volcano in the world that erupts natrocarbonatite lava, which is much cooler than regular lava. The climb is steep and challenging, usually done at night to avoid the heat. Reaching the summit at sunrise offers a surreal and spiritual experience, with views over the Great Rift Valley.
